Kerala backwaters

Allepey

Atop our house boat, a constant luxurious breeze, details of the fluffy chest of tiny birds visible from their close-flying proximity. Our pathway is lined with palm trees, leaning eagerly in to greet and bow to our passing. That's because we feel like queens in our plastic thrones upon our floating palace.

Bird song abounds, rippling pictures on the water's surface and faint sounds and glimpses of village life amongst the endless alleys of canals. Today's heaven is Kerala's backwaters. The setting of the sun through the palm trees, spilling it's most dazzling shades of pink, purple and orange over a glistening surface. Birds sweep, dive and dart before us, like fluttering eyelashes, making their last work and play dance before racing the sun home.

How wonderful to leave far behind the horns and engines and road noise, to let the buzz of a thousand insects lull us into a further calm. Kerala, India has you to thank for our worshipping your beauty.

Ali and Michelle - This sounds more like it!! Enjoy it and soak it up. Dad, Derek and James went to the Motor Show on Sunday night - after James knocked off from Macca's and really enjoyed themselves. Dad told me about the 'hostess' type girls with all the exhibits, and recognized our neighbour, Tex's granddaughter and told the others he knew that girl - and dodged back when she wasn't busy to chat with her. He didn't tell me that they were all scantily clad!!! He only said they were beautiful. Merry let the cat out of the bag when I was talking to her later (Mum). I suppose you will begin meandering back towards Mumbai for departures soon. I would die if you missed your planes. Love from a mother who can't help it.

I love your photos! They look like postcards. Maybe India is a good place to visit after all! You sound so much more relaxed now and can enjoy your trip. Hope the rest of it is up to the same standard. Love Mum, Dad & Russ xxxxxx

I don't know why you got off the house boat! It sounded and looked lovely!
Denise is taking Kaitlyn into the Children's this week for tests before she has day surgery on her heart next week. I was reflecting how "lucky" we are in Australia to have such treatment in the face of your own 'hospital' experience and how awful it must be as the parent of a sick child or family member in India.
It is dad's 50th anniversary of his ordination as a minister this Friday - on his birthday! Weren't we fortunate to have been brought up in a faith where God had paid the price for our "balancing" rather than poor people having to pay the god....or should I say the red faced man! It certainly sounds like you guys have gained some real insight into the culture of India. Keep enjoying! LOL, Merry
